Family Fun Dog Show
Report 2025
As another successful show concludes, I would like to thank everyone that supported the Dog Show.
We were blessed with fine weather on the day, although the long awaited rain the week before led to flashbacks of 2024 when
half the ring, (in fact, half the showground) was still underwater. Not so this year, and the field looked fabulous, so I’d like to
start with a team that is often overlooked, the supplementary grounds team to the HVVS committee. These are the people who
contribute time and equipment to mowing the ground and putting the rings, fences and signs up, and the straw bales out. This
creates the base upon which the show is built, (and then also needs taking down and clearing away at the end) so thank you all,
you know who you are, for another excellent job.
The Dog Show was a real ‘team effort’ this year – thanks to our regular stands, ‘Team Edward Labrador Rescue’ and ‘Many Tears
Animal Welfare Charity’ who also get involved, with Team Edward providing our Judge Carla Madeley, and Liz from Many Tears
providing the poo bags (very important!) and also helping with the photography.
Huge thanks to our two main Sponsors, Bully Billows for the prizes and Millside Country Store for the rosettes. The treat bags
for the winners were actually bigger than some of the dogs, and the rosettes were of such quality that they will be a fabulous
momento for years to come. Thanks also to the Calverton Branch of the Royal British Legion for the reflective poppy collar
clips for each entrant.
Carla Madeley was an excellent Judge and very efficient; with 133 entries it was no mean feat to put all the contestants (canine
and human!) at ease. Carla obtained the back stories to many of the dogs and relayed these to the audience, along with details
of breeds and traits, and explaining her rationale for the placing the winners. We all felt we had gained something and I can’t
thank Carla enough.
Next, my glamorous assistant, Ania, who kept us on time and to schedule, handed out flyers, dealt with questions and queries
and encouraged people to enter, co-ordinated the tannoy announcements and handed out prizes. On her arrival with zero
notice she was informed that our photographer hadn’t materialised and on top of everything else, she still managed to take the
photographs. Well done, Ania, and thank you so much.
Last, but by no means least, thanks to all you lovely people who support us so well every year. Despite all the
acknowledgements above, let’s not forget that it’s all about the dogs, and it was great that so many of you bought your dogs to
show us. It was lovely to see so many dogs entered and several classes were into double figures. I won’t go into details here
as the results and photos are posted separately, but I will just mention Lindsey who came a very close second in the fancy
dress competition with Roxy and Annie as ‘Salt and Pepper’. As ever, the vintage cars were driving off the showground by the
time the Judge made her choice of the dog she would most like to take home, and so ended another pleasant afternoon. Again,
many thanks to you all.
